Hi everyone!
I am so glad to find this forum. Seems like a gold mine of knowledge in electricals!

I have a query and am not sure where it fits right but I am sure you guys can help.
We're in India. My father is running a company that manufactures electrical goods like DOL starters, Contactors, Control switches (reverse/forwards, change overs) for more than 3 decades and he is hard core engineer. I on the other side am commerce guy with very little technical knowledge. Most of our manufacturing is done in-house with only casting and some brass components being outsourced. The thing is that I am looking for expansion and due to shortage of labor its getting difficult to do that. So I am thinking of partnering with some company to expand our product list. The products would be MCBs, RCCBs, Limit Switches, Modular switches etc. The obvious option to look at is some Chinese company to either work with us as OEM or do co-branding. I personally do not have any experience with any brands from China. What I know is that you can get all sorts of qualities from China but I really have no clue how to find the quality that would suit us. Since we have reasonably good brand value in India, I would not want to ruin it by choosing a bad partner.

I feel a lots of you people do have experience with Chinese manufacturers and can suggest who can be a good source. It will be a great help!

Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask!

Thanks in advance!

I cant recommend any Chinese manufacturers that would be suitable for your needs, but I do import goods from china quite often as part of my sideline business selling car audio equipment and might be able to offer you some advise.

Due to the volume of goods and the investment you're looking to make I would suggest you find a reputable sourcing agent. They will go and visit various manufacturers and inspect the quality of their goods and also negotiate a good price on your behalf. You tell them your requirements and they will go out and find the product. It will be a worthy investment for you, saving you a lot of time and money. From experience the language barrier to get over when dealing with them can make things confusing , the agent will communicate with them in their language. Also theres a lot of scamming that goes on over and this route will help protect you from the fraudsters.

If your lucky you may be able to find a manufacturer thats already making electrical goods for well know brands, that would be able to work you.

Most manufacturers will have a minimum order quantity but are normally flexible on the first order. And as with everything, the more you order the better price you will get.

Good luck with your venture.

Hahaha glenn!

He's a newbie to the forum, without knowing your past posts, he'll think you're the most unhelpful --- ever haha.

Still funny though.

Thanks a lot for your very valuable input. Your answer is spot on! Taking the resourcing agent route sounds good. I can visit China myself to begin with but again as you said the language barrier and then reaching the actual manufacturer could be a real cumbersome process. So I will concentrate on using a good agent.

Do they have any rating system somewhere from which you can judge the credibility of an agent? Or perhaps anyone around here can point me to someone whom you've had a positive experience with.

Thanks again

did you make this?

OH YES!
In fact this is our flagship product. We have recently bagged a large order from Yorksire since they want to replace all the older ones with these ..Inside story. So don't be surprised to find it installed on your street soon!

Seems like you have an amazing international exposure. No I have never been to the UK.

We primarily cater to the Indian market with very little exports to some middle eastern markets (that too through agents).

The products I am looking to add up are MCBs, ELCBs, Modular switches Limit switches (we already make them but the range is limited) plus other panel accessories.

I am sure I can use some of your vast expertise. Please check your pm.

Thanks!
