Righties, im getting some down lighters, which connect to a transformer and has a plug. How do i connect them so they run off a light switch, i have never installed any before so any help is very appreciated

Take no notice of me.
I thought you're an eletrician? or at least apprentice.

I have recently became an electrican, i have done re-wires on my own, changes consumer units and all the things that go with it, passed all of my exams so far with distinctions but i'm still learning and i have never done downlighters so instead of scratching my head about this for a whole day i thought i might ask you genius guys :) (if thats ok)

You can tell this is a post by a Lady, if it were a bloke he would have been shot to bits by now. The wording of the post tickled me i must admit:laugh3:

Sorry if I offended you.
Like I said, take no notice, I'm stuck at home to tonight drinking beer, wife's elsewhere, I'm 'baby' sitting, so I'm bored.

Ok i will have a stab. Only do this if the plug is a normal household plug like the one on your hairdryer or iron, i assume you have one or the other and know what i am referring to.

1, cut off plug which supplies 230v to transformer.
2, Connect Brown wire to switched live on your lighting circuit.
3, Connect Blue wire to lighting circuit neutral
4, If it has one then connect earth wire to lighting circuit earth.
5, cut holes in ceiling,
6 shove lights into holes
7, do all tests etc
8, switch on, standback and admire.
9, dont blame me if the plug you describe is different from the one i assume it is and it all goes bang.

Cheers..........Howard

well maybe you could create your own posts in the off topic section, or 'as you're an arms member' hang in there instead of trolling and ruining the reputation of this forum?

drinking and surfing is dangerous.

thanks mate, i figured it would be along those lines but i needed a confidence check before i proceeded with it, and yes i own 3 hairdryers and of course a pair of GHD's - for sure

Just think/treat the downlighters as you would a normal pendant. The only difference is that you take the switch wire and a neutral to the 230V side of the transformer (instead of the pendant) then cable the 12volt side to the downlighter.

before starting with the downlights, cut the holes first. then insert several rats ( with a length of fishing line attached to each ).. to eat the insulation that is packed in stopping you feeding your cables above the ceiling. when a rat exits through another hole, use the fishing line to pull in your cables. when you've completed this task, you will probably be hungry, so cook and eat the rats. then you are ready to second fix.

coz it's a woman thing. and i can honestly say that i have never used straighteners ( straitjacket, maybe ) or a hair dryer in my life ( and no, i'm not bald )
