Sorry for all the posts regarding tools. I have just decided to buy all the things I have wanted over the last few months and upgrade some older stuff.

Really want to upgrade my old ladders as they are about as straight as.......... well I better not say.

Was looking at Aluminium or Fibreglass. Need to be pretty sturdy as I am around the 19 stone mark
Also need to be weatherproof as they will spend most of their life clamped to my van roof.

Really like the look of these: Youngman 'Catwalk' 3.70-6.5m EN131 Fibreglass Trade Extension Ladder - Machine Mart

Are they as good (or better) than aluminium ladders?

Have also been looking to replace my bosch cleaner and have had some really good reports on the Henry hoover, not sure about his little smiley face but most people say he is bombproof for light (domestic & small commercial) cleaning, dust, plaster etc

Cheers again guys

Have a look on ladders-direct.com it's the factory outlet for clow, really good stuff I've got a set of their superglass double extention ladders think they cost me £176 in the vat with a maximum extention of 7.60m, can't post a link as I'm on the phone but you can copy and paste this.

Superglas Dual Section Fibreglass Extension Ladder

oh the link worked :)

and another thing they weigh a frickin ton but once their up they are rock solid even at full extention.

Henrys cant be beaten. I think all hotels I have worked for have cupboards full of them, last for years and just take all the abuse you can give them. Dont like the pink version though. I think they are the only vac to of beaten off dyson hoover etc (may be owned by them now though, etc etc.) coupleof relatives have a henry, and had them years. No frills etc, but its henry that comes out when the latest all singing and dancing hoover etc packs up. ideal for us.

What, really? Cos my hoover is absolute junk.

can you even buy them any more?

Henry all the way worked in a factory for several years and the abuse that was dished out to Henry on a daily basis had to be seen to be believed yet he still came back for more and was still going strong when I left.

Henrys hardcore brother :D

Numatic International Ltd. - NQS250B-22

The only problem with Henrys is they are only dry vac's, you can get them in a wet and dry version nut not in the classic shape and proportions. The other slight draw back is the lack of a socket on the front of the vac for tools and the auto start.

Nilfisk Alto are a good alternative they are one of the largest vac manufacturers in europe, they make vacs for Hilti and Festool etc. here's the link you may have to search around on their website for the right one. Going from my experience with them they are great unfortunately mine is rather large as it's for the chasing tool so it weighs a ton but will basically sucks anything up without jamming. They have just started to bring out smaller versions so i'm even tempted to upgrade :D

Single-Phase Wet & Dry Vacuum Cleaners - ATTIX 30 - - Nilfisk-Alto

Always got my ladders from midlandladders.com, as they have good prices. Henries are priceless, but they do a twin motor version which is superb when using a wall chaser.

was talking to a plasterer yesterday, he stated that all step ladders now have to have a label on them giving a throw away date !!- No comment. Will ask him where he got that info. He owns a largish company so Is not a twit. Probably read it from some H&S circular. will find out.(and obviously ignore !!)

Green are light duty

Yellow are medium duty (good enough for a stepladder)

Red are heavy duty (my preferred for an extension ladder)

henry's" ACAT" you are right ,BUILT FOR THE JOB at half the cost of a dyson

Don't tempt me might buy them and spray the logo on myself :D . Unfortunately i've already started with the yellow colour scheme for all my steps and ladders :(

Should never of read this post, it was fate. Have managed for years with a normal pair of Yellow stepladders and the full monty for outside work, always managed to pull my self up into lofts without spending on the stepladders that are about three steps higher.
Customer phones today by way of recomendation, could I light up his garage (and all the rest ) The ceiling is twelve foot. So, looks like a pair of red for me !! I have a feeling there is gonna be no profit on this job. So thanks Lenny for the advice.
Saw my plasterer mate again today, the ruling on stepladders having a use by date is genuine, he is digging out the source for me. It would appear that Health and safety can jump on the personal safety of self mployed people as well (I know we are duty holders for others etc ) because we get treated for free as well by the Nat. Health. lol.

I bought a Young mans ladder last week after about a year of getting away without one .

£117 including a van/roof clamp for said ladders . Pukka I thought . Then realised they are likely to get rusty

on top of van and have to find a home out of the wet for them:eek:

You have already thought it through !

Reading with great interest, cant find info on ladder max life as Ive always been in the position of regular inspectiond to ascertain safe continued use. As for the colours have a look at Ladders Direct for their spin. Just need to get my ar$e in gear and buy a proper ladder..............:D Thanks for all the supplier links

What type of ladder are we talking about. Shouldn't go rusty if left on the van.

The only use by date I know of is a next inspection date (a sort of PAT test for ladders) if they don't pass then they are broken up.
