Ladders & Other Stuff

Sorry for all the posts regarding tools. I have just decided to buy all the things I have wanted over the last few months and upgrade some older stuff.

Really want to upgrade my old ladders as they are about as straight as.......... well I better not say.

Was looking at Aluminium or Fibreglass. Need to be pretty sturdy as I am around the 19 stone mark
Also need to be weatherproof as they will spend most of their life clamped to my van roof.

Are they as good (or better) than aluminium ladders?

Have also been looking to replace my bosch cleaner and have had some really good reports on the Henry hoover, not sure about his little smiley face but most people say he is bombproof for light (domestic & small commercial) cleaning, dust, plaster etc

Have a look on ladders-direct.com it's the factory outlet for clow, really good stuff I've got a set of their superglass double extention ladders think they cost me £176 in the vat with a maximum extention of 7.60m, can't post a link as I'm on the phone but you can copy and paste this.

Henrys cant be beaten. I think all hotels I have worked for have cupboards full of them, last for years and just take all the abuse you can give them. Dont like the pink version though. I think they are the only vac to of beaten off dyson hoover etc (may be owned by them now though, etc etc.) coupleof relatives have a henry, and had them years. No frills etc, but its henry that comes out when the latest all singing and dancing hoover etc packs up. ideal for us.

Henry all the way worked in a factory for several years and the abuse that was dished out to Henry on a daily basis had to be seen to be believed yet he still came back for more and was still going strong when I left.

The only problem with Henrys is they are only dry vac's, you can get them in a wet and dry version nut not in the classic shape and proportions.The other slight draw back is the lack of a socket on the front of the vac for tools and the auto start.

Nilfisk Alto are a good alternative they are one of the largest vac manufacturers in europe, they make vacs for Hilti and Festool etc. here's the link you may have to search around on their website for the right one. Going from my experience with them they are great unfortunately mine is rather large as it's for the chasing tool so it weighs a ton but will basically sucks anything up without jamming. They have just started to bring out smaller versions so i'm even tempted to upgrade

Always got my ladders from midlandladders.com, as they have good prices. Henries are priceless, but they do a twin motor version which is superb when using a wall chaser.

was talking to a plasterer yesterday, he stated that all step ladders now have to have a label on them giving a throw away date !!- No comment. Will ask him where he got that info. He owns a largish company so Is not a twit. Probably read it from some H&S circular. will find out.(and obviously ignore !!)

If you do go down the fibreglass ladder route...I would advise against the green range.

As a minimum yellow but ideally red.
