Check out my profile and Spot the irony mate , to be honest we are just in the middle of a 82 kw install and then moving on to a 60 kw with hopefully 4 more 50 kw ones after that !
Joking apart i do reckon thermal solar is better but we don't do that ?

There is a little irony:). So a 50kw system cost wise would be, genuinely interested as I've got a mate who's thinking of going down the renewables route, on the domestic level.

Dependent on which make and type of panel and inverter you go for and whether ground mount or roof mount .
Also if the DNO wants to shaft the client as well !
50 kw Ag barn mount will set you back around £125000 - £190000 give or take a little .

Bloody hell and how long does it take to pay off that initial investment for the customer, taking into account the solar feed in tariff any grants that are available or tax breaks etc.

Maybe so , but i reckon it cost us near on £20k to get there with courses , some of which were a total waist !
Also down time , registration costs and pretty much giving the first one away to the Guinea pig we did the assessment on ( Thank god we did ! First one we did came off and went back through no fault of ours , which then meant we missed the assessment date , full price to pay again thank you very much ! ) insurance and then as soon as people hear them magic words solar panels your scaffolding and roofer costs will double overnight !
And i nearly forgot if you do the big boy jobs you can expect to stump up tens if not hundreds of thousands of pounds up front a good month before you get it back , they don't like giving credit to much !!!

Depends on things but any where from 9 to 12 years not taking into account the tax side .

9-12 years and the life span of the panels is around 20-25 seems to dispel the common myth about the cells dying before you break even. Thanks for the info food for thought
