hey all got a quick question, installing an outside light, what cable is acceptable for outside, ie on the brick wall outside as wiring it inside is going to be a pain, cheers all :)

sorry hehe i should know better :p

basically was gonna install outside light from one in the hall but seems it has no earth at it (tested r1r2 will inv later) and feed for light was too close to pipe work etc which made it impossible.

was thinking of runnin a cable from the db outside (off a 6a breaker) to a ip rated light switch and then put a pir fitting up, run would only be about 5 metres

Hope thats enough info, cheers =0)

FP200 or equiv is always good, quick to put in. or flex or if you look in the regs it says T & E but I would personally stay away from that unless it is under a soffit or similar

Depends on the type of outside light. Black conduit ( even with domestic ) can look well professional when installed carefully. FP200 and PYRO can look cheap even though they aren't to buy. Depends on what the customer would accept and what you can do within reason. Does the fitting allow you do fix via conduit, etc? Can you adapt itl? Why can't you install a switch inside the house - surface trunking / chase the wall out ?

Black plastic conduit always seems to look best. When installed neatly. Although the screws on the saddles always rust and spoil the look. Could go for push in clips though.
