It's time to hand yours in to your nearest police station before the end of the month.
Go on, you know you want to!

Please unplug the appliance in question, if you still have the original packaging it should be parcelled up in it. Thereafter you should place the appliance in the vehicle of your choice and return it to the vendor. You are clearly too stupid to own a refridgerator.

I'd love to post something like that on one of these stupid diy/wind up threads :)

"What do I need to find the fault?"
"You need a pair of dousing rods; walk around the ground floor of the house and when they cross over bang an earth rod through the floorboards and into the ground, then pour a bucket of water on it to improve the continuity"

actually I have a plug socket tester which needs an AA battery and that will let me know whether the fridge has a supply to it, Bob my mate from the curry house said it will light up if the stat is okay, apparently Homebase sell them next to the extension leads for £1.20, I haven't been to Homebase before hence my original question.

Remove the plug on the fridge from the socket, remove the socket faceplate and put your tongue on said red/brown wire.

You will soon know if power is present, if not you'll have to get an electrician in.

If you actually put the whole tester in the fridge then you'll know if it's cold enough as the battery will die, however BS6725 suggests that a better method is the Van Damme test.

I have this wonderful device that informs me immediately, even by text if I'm out, when an electrical appliance stops working correctly.

Its called a wife.

The maintenance costs on those devices are often punitively high though, factor in the cost of the upgrade to "wife + children" and it increases exponentially
