The title says it all really, I finished my college course in July 2017, and have completed both the City & Guilds 2365 Electrical Installations Diploma Level 2 and Level 3 courses. I ended up moving with family last October, and have been trying to find work and figure out where to go next ever since. The college where I studied didn't give out much useful information with regards to finding work experience or how to proceed from the qualifications once complete. So when I left last year I'm now in a situation where I have no work experience at all, and have been left more or less in the dark on how to approach companies and successfully convince them into offering a trainee role (the last day essentially ended with a "you'll get a job with ease with these qualifications"). The work experience issue recently led to me being rejected from an apprenticeship as there "wasn't substantial proof I have good teamwork skills".

I'm aiming to discover exactly what my next steps should be, whether I need to get more qualifications, get cheap or unpaid work experience under supervision or to continue to search for local companies and actively get in contact with them to see if they can help me out. I have seen a fair few vacancies pop up that typically require either a year of experience prior or holding a CSCS or ECS card (or both experience and a card together). I am committed to getting into this industry for a job and career, so I am ready to take on as much advice and help as I possibly can to give myself the best possible chance of getting my foot on the ladder and work my way up from there. I understand it will be rather difficult, but I want to make this my profession and line of work.

It would seem your first step then is to get the CSCS or ECS card. It is difficult and a lot of people posting on this forum are in a similar situation. I encourage you to keep applying for work (with the card) I beleive you will have to get your NVQ and AM2 to qualify for a gold card with JIB. Advertise yourself in local electrical wholesalers as looking for work experience at least then you will have something to offer for more mainstream work. You are well placed with the qualifications you have and they are an excellent start to I hope a promising career in the noble industry of worshipful electricians. Just keep on trying don't be discouraged! Try agency work as well.

as above. try agency work as a mate. if you register with indeed.com , you get emails offering jobs. just specify electrician's mate, state , say, 20 miles radius, and blagg a bit.
