am now working on a property ( installing a second shower)

due to the load change . 2 x 8.5 kw showers = 74 A

And the main income only being 63A main fuse , 16mm tails. I need these upgraded .

Do i need western power + the suppliers out to do both sides ? ( ie after /before the meter ? )

Many thanks

Bet if you put a clamp on those showers, they won't be pulling 8.5 KW. For some reason, manufacturers are always a little over optimistic on the actual ratings!! lol!!

I fully agree with you . I clamped one a while ago and was pulling 21A ,

However due to the design procedure we must follow i guess we should upgrade it yeah ?

Are there other loads.cooker, heaters etc, then as an alternative you could have only one running at a time, use a changeover switch or even fit a contactor and current sensing relay

Just to update.

Western power come out and despite the labels saying 60Amp fuse there was an 80 inside. !!!
they also left the tails @ 16mm......

Really ?...huh

I was to the understanding that 60amp for 16mm
And 80amp for 25mm

But you learn summat new everyday:-)

I was looking online a while ago and found a dual shower consumer unit. Can't remember where right now but I'm sure you ran one feed then connected the two shower loads and it would only allow one to work, good idea IMO don't think it was that expensive either 40/50 quid.....

I called DNO about a house I looked at once and needed change from 60 Amp to 100A,
Long story but they told me yes you can change it yourself if you are competent but best ring your local DNO to verify.
