Hi Everyone!

I am currently retraining to work in the electrical industry so im looking for all the help I can get. This forum seems a great place to start to gain knowledge and obviously chat to those with vast experience. So all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Just to let you know a bit about me. I am 28 yrs old an have always worked in the sales industry. I am studying for my EAL Level 2, City & Guilds2382,2377 Level 3 part-time and also working for experience at weekends. Its slow progress after 3/4 months especially without a great deal of practical experience which I expected.

Im currently reading up on different types of electrical supply systems, earthing and bonding requirements and control & protection equipment so any links to blogs/websites that you feel will be handy for a beginner please do post them. Feel free to say hi too! :-)

Cheers

Welcome to the forum!

Take my advice, it's hard being a new to the game and a non-apprentice sparks/installer.

As you'll probably see from posts on here, people get stick for asking silly questions! There's at least a thread a day from someone asking members to "do their homework for them"!

If you give things a go yourself and come here for clarification, you'll gain respect for having tried and will get the help you need!

With regards the practical experience, it sounds like you found someone to take you on as a mate, you'll learn loads. Nothing beats having the tools in your hand and doing the job for real.

You've said you're reading up on things, it's the right way to go! I did the same, spent every spare minute with the regs/on site guide and it's paid off. For ages I was coming on here, looking at other people's problems, getting the books out and working out what the solution was without posting anything! It's almost like doing an apprenticeship online!

Good luck!
