Purchasing my first MFT and need a little advice, please;)

Hello sparks. I'm looking at ordering my first MFT. It's still early days as a 2nd year apprentice, but I'm looking to practice rigging up some circuits in my Dad's garage and test them (sad I know). It's mainly to get familiar to the testing process and to see how the theory proves itself in the field.

I'm fed up waiting to learn this part of my college course and trade, and I want to crack on and learn as feel the pace could be picked up.

As this tester will be a Christmas present for me, via my Dad no real budget has been set, but I still want to avoid rushing into spending unnecessarily high.

After reading several threads on this site and other Electrical forums, I'm either going to get the Fluke 1652 or Kewtech KT64, but have a couple of questions on these.

Basically, if I order a Fluke 1652 of an internet retailer, would I be likely to get the original leads (dodgy I've heard/ weak croc clips etc)where I will have to phone Fluke to get replacements (Robin I've read) or would I be getting these straight from the box?


And if I'm likely to get the original leads, would I be better off purchasing Kewtech G7 leads/accessories as I've heard good about them?

Could someone tell me if the following Kewtech products are compatible with the Fluke tester?

I don't think the last two are 'G7 compliant' but would they still be compatible?

Dont know if its too late for you as I see it was sent before christmas. I got a Megger MFT1552 and its great. easy to use, good quality, and reasonable price. My old boss had no end of problems with his old Fluke. i paid £530 for mine including vat. Hope this is some help

Can I Forth???? the motion. Just downgraded from a MFT1553 to a MFT1552 as the bluetooth was no benifit to me at all. Great bit of kit.

Got to jump on the band wagon i'am afraid. Got the 1552 it's so easy to use brilliant. someone gave me an old robin for a spare but i don't really like it

Just out of interest did you guys know that you can do an R1 + R2 using the plug in cord?

Being the owner of Robin testers im not aware of this function on the Megger.

Care to elaborate?

I've got one of them fancy pluggins now but you can do it as follows which can be quicker.

Only be suitable for phase / earth readings at the sockets

You would need to obviously null the lead to start with, I use a single gang unswitched socket with the phase and earth shorted with a piece of 4mm earth kept in the old tool kit. Plug in the cord and zero the lead.

Cross connect at the board simply select continuity at away you go.

Just gotta say I have the MFT 1553, a robin combination, an alpha tek & comb meggers........ the MFT is the dogs... compared to the rest on the market its lightweight and nimble, alphateks a clumsy and bulky and fluke/robins are fidgity.. go for the megger all the way. you wont regret it. forget the blue tooth though, waste of time realy
