Where did you have the neutral connected when the RCD tripped?

That last picture is of the original configuration and yes the black to U1 is from the reset switch. Top 2 red go to run cap. and bottom 2 red to the start cap. I tried it exactly as your anti-clockwise diagram showed with the connecting bars horizontal, but it tripped the RCD. I can only assume the wires to the connecting block are wrong. I don't know which wire corresponds to which winding etc.

This is where you need test gear and a good working knowledge of motors.

For the wires that disappear inside the motor identifying which wire is which is not an easy task, usually they're marked with a collar at the terminal block. If you've not altered any of those wires then they should be on the correct terminals, as there's no reason to have to change the terminals the winding wires are connected to under normal circumstances.

I'm inclined to think it's the end of your road if the RCD is tripping. Please call it quits at this point, the RCD only trips if there's a fault present and that particular type of fault can cause the body of the motor to become live and can give you an electric shock.

If your neutral was connected to V2 as you say then the next step is to remove the power connections and insulation test the motor windings and capacitors which you can't do without test equipment. I'd also do a continuity test on the windings and reference the results against the manufacturers specs at room temperature to rule out tracking across the windings which isn't uncommon once overheating has occurred. You stated earlier that there has already been overheating and smoke from the motor so I'm guessing the damage has already been done. If I were you I'd take it to a motor repair shop or rewinders and ask them to bench test it and if necessary quote on the repairs.

I'm not saying Marvo made a bad job of it. Some people are beyond help, added to which I will not help with DIY.
