joint testing. if you don't see water, test with a match.
 
Ha, I always remember going on site with my dad when I was a kid and seeing him walking around with his lighter looking for gas leaks. I was never sure that was truly the correct procedure, but he never looked concerned.
 
The Gas Safety ( Installation and Use) Regulations 1998. Anyone carrying out work within the scope of these regulations has to be Gas Safe Registered.

That is very sensible....
Obviously, anyone working on electrical systems has to be registered with a governing body as well.... :)
