My thoughts are,most situations probably not,but
If the specs asked for them to be bonded then bonded they will be,but
I would say that they also need bonding if they enter/exit a building

Wouldn't cable tray be an exposed conductive part, assuming you can touch it??

Exposed-Conductive-Part – Conductive part of equipment which can be touched and which is not normally live, but which may become live under fault conditions.

If there was an Insulation resistance fault with a cable on cable tray, there would be potential of it going live, so personally I would bond it, but it could be out of reach??? meaning it can't be touched and doesn't require bonding??

Either way, I would still bond it to be safe.

Tray carrying insulated and sheathed cables would not be an exposed conductive part as the insulation and sheath are deemed to provide the same basic and fault protection as class II equipment 412.2.4.1

So SWA, Twin and Earth, MICC, SY, FP200 ext, Double insulated Flex, and Double insulated Meter tails would all be okay.

But if someone (Not me) was to run single cores or bare MICC, then it would need Earthing.

You think it is a good idea to bond a tray where it passes from a building, maybe into another.

Exactly what I have been reading haha. I didn't even know you can get bare MICC until I read that. Allways thought it was in an orange sheath.

I have installed bare, orange, red, black and white. Pay the manufacturer enough they will probably do you some pink.

Bare isn't common but you often see it in churches where the sheath tarnishes and becomes more aesthetically pleasing, in other words it blends to the surroundings.
