Hello, I'm a new member here and looking for some advice. I served my time in a factory around 15 years ago and have been a maintenance electrician since. I've worked on installations, servicing, commissioning, PLC's and some domestic work. I am looking on advice as to what courses people would recommend that I do to get my CV a bit more up to date.

There's the 17th edition update 2382 if you haven't done that one.

Then there's the testing and inspection courses 2394 and 2395 which are quite highly regarded (used to be the 2391-10).

Then after that there's the 2396 design course.

Hi Impededloop, Thanks for the quick reply. I was already looking at the 17th edition course and I will look at the others as well, just trying to find a training facility around Ayrshire in Scotland that does them.

Welcome Andy - What kind of work do you want to get involved in here, if you are competent with PLC controls, programming them and designing the control systems then I would forget about heading the domestic way as it is a saturated market where competition is hard and returns are low....

I would in your shoes stick to industrial and just dot the I's and cross the T's with your paperwork - the Industrial sector has a 25,000 shortage in competent engineers as the old hats retire and no trained professionals to fill their boots.

Hi Darkwood, thanks for your reply. I have dabbled in PLC's to the extent of Siemesn S5 and 7, GE Fanuc, Allen Bradley to name a few. I am more at ease fault finding through a program and interrogating it rather than writing it although I have done a little programming. I've also done my fair share of pane building and design. I am just looking to update relevant qualifications and looking for various courses to attend. My main idea is to stick with the industrial sector though.
