So I'm back to work after the bank holiday and I've been asked to install a couple of sockets so they can plug this big beast of a ups system into it.

Currently they have about 5 extension leads all linked to gather supplying it ?

I've never worked on a three phase board before but I will move slow and carefully.

Below is a few pics of the board

My plan is to tuck the 2 metal clad double sockets I'm going to install tight up to the consumer unit with one of these (picture 1) and I'll probably use one to link double socket 1 to double socket 2.

My question is how do I know what size breaker to go with as I'm sure a 16A or 20A one will cover it but it would be nice to know how you've come to your decision depending on what everyone advises.

Looking at the other breakers and rcbos present they are of the type c variety

Seeing at the new breaker will be feeding sockets I obviously need to offer rcd protection

So there for I was going to go for a Schinder type c rcbo in 20A

I will wire it in 2.5 singles and do it as a radial as it's only going to be supplying 2 double sockets.

Is the existing socket they are using on an rcbo.

I would start by looking at the instructions for this “big beast ups”
it may well have recommended supply characteristics and this could include a note for it NOT to be rcd protected.
some also recommend a type D breaker

Thank you @James I had no idea about that and hadn't even considered it!

I'm also not 100 percent on what the unit is or what it actually does.

I was told the its there UPS and was
there as a battery back up in case they lost power to there computers and systems.

Obviously I need to go and get some more information on the unit and take it from there.

I will see if there are some instructions but I'm 99 per cent sure that will be a no.

I don't know if this is is good information but this is what I was told.

This unit worked perfectly for years and then one day it just broke.

The company brought a new one and within a few months they began having issues with it so the guy before me hard wired it in to get around the problem. When I looked it was a kettle lead plugged into the extension lead and then into this unit.

Now it's must not working because they have asked me to sort it because if there systems go down they are in trouble and the upper managment won't sign of a new one because they are £5000 a unit and they don't want the same thing to happen.

That's all I've got to go on.

I've been asked to put in a
supply as that is what the guys coming from another company to get it running have asked for. My supervisor has said put 2 double sockets in.

Tommorow I going to have to ask them the question

Has this always lived here or has it been moved to here.

Theres surely no way this has always been fed by a load of extension leads because its in a warehouse where there is obviously regs to adhere to. Im thinking mechanical protection at least.

I've at least got something to go on now

If I can find any more pics that I might have taken I will post them up just in case someone sees them and thinks I know what that it

Cheers ?

I'd deffo get the make/model of the unit, see if they have a tech line and speak with them directly (and get any suggestions/guidance from them in writing (e/snail mail), just to cover my arse.
