Hi everyone

Sorry if it's a repeated question tho.

Agents followed me a failed visual EICR which has C2 for lack of RCD on cooker circuit and lighting circuit containing bathroom and been advised by other spark to replace CU. CU is approx 20 years old.
For me it would be C3 with a note explaining need for improvement.

What you think guys?

I presume followed should read forwarded?

I would take no notice of a "visual EICR" it is a useless piece of paper if no actual inspection and testing has been done.
I hope nobody has paid for this EICR.

Well, as far as I'm aware agents been invoiced for that. Despite the fact that such EICR is not worth the paper it's written on... what code would you give?

I would not entertain arguing over the coding of an EICR that neither I or the inspecting electrician has inspected.

it could be a C1, C2, C3 or even FI.
depending on what has actually been done.
if the cooker and bathroom lighting circuits are the only ones listed as having no RCD, presumably the socket circuits have got rcd protection?
without any testing, how does anyone know that the bathroom is not powered from the RCD that is presumably there?

quote the agent for an EICR and see what you actually find.

Been asked to carry repairs. Load of broken sockets, outdated smoke etc...also they demanding satisfactory report. As much as no RCD for cooker and lighting would be a C3 for me, I've got bad guts feeling about it 😅
quote for remedials, quote for an EICR, I feel your painful gut on this one.
You cant guarantee a satisfactory EICR if you have not done it, the tests will show what the condition is.
I would be thinking of leaving this one to people with more time to argue about payment than I have got.

Yeah, I feel you on the repeated questions – happens all the time. Regarding your situation, if it were me, I'd probably lean towards a C3 with a note too. 20-year-old CU does raise some eyebrows, but maybe a replacement isn't the only solution.

If they are demanding a satisfactory EICR then alarm bells are ringing. I would offer to do the remedial work, but I would request full payment before hand. I would also say that I will be giving them an EIC or MEIWC depending on the work involved, not a satisfactory report.
You will then probably not hear back from them.

I would add a price for an eicr.
they are highly unlikely to put in writing that it must be satisfactory for the order to be placed.
