Hi all, I'm looking at installing a led security light. I intend to run it from the upstairs lighting circuit which is rcd protected. It will cause too much mess getting cables to the loft from the ring main. So does this sound ok, turn the power off obviously then cut the lighting feed cable in the loft, rejoin in a junction box along with another 1mm twin and earth cable, run the spur cable to a double pole switch then run another 1mm cable from switch to outside light. Just to add I can't come off the last rose on the circuit as the rose is in a lowered ceiling. I'm thinking this is right but am I missing something? Any advice will be gladly appreciated. Cheers.

sounds OK. the load is suitable for connection into a lighting circuit.why the d/p switch?is it just to isolate?.

DP switches for external equipment is not necessary, but is a good idea if water gets in to light and starts tripping the RCD. Least you can isolate then til you get your ladders out.

but are his ladders on the van or in his stockings?

Will spuring off with the junction box be ok? I do have some wago boxes and connectors too. Thanks for your reply.

spurring from the feed to existing lights, using wagos enclosed in a wagobox or similar is fine, as long as connections are good and all added cable and accessories are suitable and comply with bullsh1t 7671.

Ok mate, nice 1 for that. I'll route the cables to a stud wall in the walk in wardrobe so switching is easily accessible. Thanks again.

Would standard twin and Earth be ok as none of the cable will be exposed. It'll be straight out of the wall and into the back of the light. It's 1 of those guard cams. Thanks again.

yep...

It would be a requirement if the light wasn't fixed to the outside of the building.

br a bit pointless fixing an outside light to the inside of the building.
