MFT1730 Newbie - Doesn't seem to work

Hopefully I'm not making a complete a**e of myself here!
I've just bought an MFT1730 (currently re qualifying as a sparkie) in readiness for my 2392. My idea was to start using the device at home to become familiar with it. However I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle, so to speak. I thought I would do a simple voltage test first using the Mains plug lead connecting to L1 & L2 terminals, and the left rotary switch set to V. But when I connect it to a socket, all I get on the display is ' rse (above) NO'. Am a complete idiot, or have I picked up a faulty device? Wonder if anyone can help, before I ring Megger on Monday.

if the 1730 is similar to the 1552, then the mains plug lead fits in a dedicated socket on the tester.

Yep I've followed the directions on the manual, still no joy.

Thanks Tony. Although the manual says the position of the right hand rotary range knob 'does not matter', it does!

if mine every seems odd i switch it of and back on again, make sure its full charged, use dedicated lead with 3 pin plug, green to green hole red to red etc, should pick up voltage on any dial possession but turn knob to volts. try a different outlet and make sure leads are pushed home into the unit..

Ta, with the right knob set to 'spanner' or the 'blue' settings (haven't used it at all, so can't think what they are!), it won't give voltage reading. Not a good start for the manual.

Tel, no the 1730 'kettle lead' isn' the same. At the end of the lead there are 3 terminals to go into the 3 terminals of the MFT. The old dedicated socket from the 1500 series is now saved for accessories like the iClamp.

To the OP - are you using the Megger lead with the 3 pin socket on it or separate leads to one of those plug in socket adaptors? I ask because the Megger leads have ben 'redesigned' and don't work with the those socket testers anymore (mine don't).

Nope, using the Megger 3 pin socket to red/blue/green leads. As above though, I since found out you have to have the righthand rotary set to anything other than 'spanner/blue setting'.

That would make sense as the spanner is the set-up function for the MFT
