Hi, I currently work as a PAT Engineer, but I am in the process of taking the c&g 2394 and then the 2395 so that I can get up to speed with test & inspect, I already have my 17th ed. I retrained after 15 years in the catering industry, I'd really like to find a company who are willing to employ mature members of staff with limited experience but are enthusiastic! I'm 35 BTW.....

And there lies the problem with fast track courses!! You have no meaningful qualifications or experience to enable you to find employment with respectable contractors. You'll just have to wait until you at least have the qualification levels to offer an employer. Nothing to stop you ringing around on the off chance that someone will take you on, in a trainee capacity, if you can afford it that is, as the salary is going to low!!

By the way, there is no such thing as a PAT Engineer, so i wouldn't use that term on any CV you produce.

I thought that there would be some helpful advice on this site not abuse! I've worked hard to retrain as an electrician, I put myself through college on the c&g 2330 course (NOT FAST track as you assumed) also 2382 17th edition and i'm now just about to start my 2394/2395 courses. Ive also completed the 2377 to get me into work whilst i was retraining and gaining industrial experience.
The company I work for at the moment has given me the title PAT Engineer - not my choice but if I said as Worldz has said then i would be a portable appliance tester tester????
I am very aware and willing to put the time and effort in but money doesn't grow on trees you know!
Anyway thanks for the warm welcome and advice guys this is a fantastic site, i'm so glad i signed up!!!!

I'm afraid this is your own fault, if you don't mention your present qualifications apart from the 17th, then the only assumption that can be made is ''Fast Track''

I'm not siding with anyone here but I know loads of lads that only do PAT who work for a national building services company. They are not Electricians but just 'PAT Engineers' and get paid crap money to work away constant and on nights.

Why didn't you put that in your OP then...did you complete the 2330 level 2 and level 3?

The 2377 is literally donkey's work, and thats no offence to you - i've got the 2377, like many on here and it's just not something thats highly thought of. We've had debates on this site before why companys call their staff PAT Engineers or PAT specialists...and the answer is to sound fancy, end of the day you're testing appliances and thats it.

I applaud your enthusiasm and we are all aware that money doesn't grow on tree's...even when/if you get into the trade don't expect it to be easy money buddy, its far from it.

The 2394/2395 courses will stand you in good stead once you've got them. You maybe should try enroll ureself on the 2356 as a late enterant before it moves to the 2357 seen as though you've got the 2330 level2 and level3 ( i think today is literally the last day for enteries though)

Im guessing your lastline is sarcasm, good one :icon14:

Hope you find an employer, good luck on the hunt and all the best for 2013. Mark.

I think that your way forward will be to try and find an electricians mate role as the experience side of things will damage your chances IMO.

Good luck though mate..........
