Hi all,
I have a dedicated cooker circuit on a
6mm cable, 32amp mcb running to cooker switch down to connection plate.
I want to install a 1kw ( just under) oven and 6kw hob! Am I ok swapping the connection plate for a dual one and connecting together??
And if so do I run 6mm flex hob to connection plate?
And 2.5 flex oven to connection plate?
Or do I have to use 6mm cable for both
Thank you

Are the great debate

some will say it’s fine

some will argue the oven must be fused down to 13a

dual cooker outlet 2.5mm cable to each appliance.

Sorry! Got fed the wrong info!!
Oven is 2.2 kW
I was thinking that 1kW was too small for an oven.

Most ovens of that rating come with a 13A plug or at least pre-installed flex these days though - so you may have to take into consideration manufacturer's instructions. Curring the plug off may cause hassle warranty wise. nothing wrong with running a socket from the connection point in that case and plugging the oven in though.

Thanks for reply, I have no plug on cooker! I need to install new cable, what size cable would you go for from hob to point and cooker to point? Am I ok putting a 2.5 t/e on cooker and 6 t/e on hob or do I need to run all 6 because on a 6mm circuit??
Thanks again

Personally I'd use heat resistant flex, but I'd say 2.5 to the oven is fine yes. Because the oven is a fixed load it shouldn't be possible to overload the cable long term and any direct short should easily trip the breaker before the cable suffers. (I assume it's a type B?).

Dual outlet fine, I do this myself and your covered here without even applying diversity so crack on.

ps - 4mm to hob and oven good on either 1.5 or 2.5, don't forget to dress the terminations.

Yes type B
Would I be ok running hob on same or would you go for 4mm t/e?

Would that be ok even tho on a 6mm circuit

Not really much need for a heat resistant cable when the appliances are sitting in a highly flammable normally chipboard casing :)

Fair point :) And it's rare that I see the heatproof tape installed that many of the instruction manuals mention.

But I've seen a few cables trapped between oven and hob that have been damaged by heat, and there is no tick box on my certificate for kitchen cupboard material....
