Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hello and if I may, ask for any help and advice as it would be really appreciated. I'm aware that the latest electrical regulations state that circuits within a bathroom/shower room/en-suite, need to have RCD Protection. However, where would you practically locate these RCD units? For example, one of the units to be fitted is for a Saniflo and because this is being installed within a wall void, the RCD Spur will be located adjacent to the actual Saniflo because it's out of sight, but easily accessible. But what about the RCD's to protect the Lighting and Extraction System? The consumer unit does have MCB's which could be replaced with RCD type, but I would rather go for localised RCD's since the Saniflo installation manual states that it must have one anyway. I'm thinking of two additional local RCD Spurs, one to feed the (2) IP65 Ceiling Lights and an illuminated wall mounted (infra red touch controlled) mirror, and another one, to control the extraction system which I want to keep separate so that I can have it switch operated (so that it doesn't automatically turn on when the light switch is turned on, causing unnecessary noise during the night) via either a ceiling pull switch, or (most likely) an external wall mount switch. I know that I could just mount the RCD spurs directly above the two external wall mount switches for example, but they aren't very aesthetic, so maybe I could mount them within the stud wall and access them via a plastic wall panel? Just looking for ideas to be honest. Steve

easiest solution would be to fit RCBOs to the lighting circuit ( lights and extraction fan) and to the RFC? that the saniflo is connected to. this way, you'd be giving additional protection to the complete circuits involved. also it's far neater as regards not having RCD FCUs screwed to the walls all over the place.

after youve paid for three RCD FCUs you'll almost cover the cost of a new budget board loaded with RCBOs....

it really is the way forward.

i have fitted RCD FCUs in the past but looking back it was....a bodge.

One other thing the fan may need fusing down to 3amps which is common in most manufacturers instruction
