Is it accessible? have you tested the metal rai to see if it needs bonding

no, but 522.6.103 applies.

I know the stuff you're on about, metal sections with plastereboard screwed to them, afaik there is no requirement to bond them as the are not accessible once plastered, however if there had been a requirement to bond them then Emma Shaw may still be alive today.

Only testing to find out whether or not they are extraneous conductive parts can answer your question Victor.

phil d hits the nail on the head for me.
when metal stud first came out the firm I worked for made us bond it and use grommets on any holes drilled into it.that was in the days of the earthtastic 16 th mind.
this stuff is sharp and in my opinion should have some kind of grommet fitted to the preformed holes in it .
with the "skills" of some of the monkeys that put it up it is a fine line between a decent job and screwed and trapped cables disasters.
I put some grommet strip on it if using t&e tbh

Thanks for your comments guys,

I do use grommets where the t&e pass through the rails but was not sure as to bond or not, I think in hindsight and to air on the side of caution I will for the sake of about 15m of 10mm earth cable.

Don't you think you should test it first to ascertain whether or not you should bond it?

i'd be very surprised if it was extraneous. ( unless wet-pants screwed his pipe clips to it, i which case it would be bonded through the water pipe/s ).

So if the whole house Victor had metal stud partioning you'll be bonding it all. ? And where exactly are you bonding this so it is accessible for future testing?

90% of our work is with this stuff, no requirement for bonding but as mentioned - any cable contained must be rcd protected. Very rarely do I run horizontal, usually drop 20mm conduit from the head track to each point, board it and then drop the cables. Not suitable for every application I'm aware.
