Alright Gentlemen, thanks for looking at this thread.

No BS, I'll say it straight..... Due to the "cull" or "the forum clean up" (whatever you want to call it, I'm really not bothered. It is for the best). The TS has become very very dull over this period of time. 1 Mentor and 2 Trainees have been given life long bans (by me, dont ask, you wont get a reply. Sorry).

The Staff have nothing but respect for every Mentor that has been posting up and getting involved in that section. Lets face it, we really like doing it

Marvo, Sintra, Tazz, GMES, DarkWood and myself are all behind you and the TS. Been a bit sidetracked of late but our efforts can now be directed in a positive way. The question is:-

What ideas have you got for the TS? Trainees and Mentors run the TS, not any one single MOD. (never has been)

Your section, your say, you have an input that makes a difference for those in the real world.

We have new students applying to the TS right now over this summer break. Once they pop up in the TS give them a warm welcome. With the help of Sintra (sorry bud, your getting a lot of work coming your way again) we can get more interest in there for older members.

Use this thread for any comments. I'd like to see everyone speaking their mind and pushing the TS forward.

I'm part-way through writing up a photo guide to terminating MICC, if I ever get it finished I'll post it up in the TS and start writing up some other basic processes that I hope will be useful to apprentices.

Last time you spoke your mind the psychiatrist stamped your release forms and wished that she never saw you again

Tel, how about a few photo's of how you/we all do this for a living? It will give an insight of each corner of our trades?

Great! That maybe copied onto the main forum to show others what MICC actually is!!!!

Lee has donated a prize for another comp. Lee has the main say on what the question/s should be. Really good of you for putting it up but lets just wait a little longer for the new comers

I have a copy (original) of "The Electricians Mate" for those of us who can remember is a guide, if you like to all things MICC anyone interested in the TS, cost me a fiver but will donate to a good home, if they promise to look after and feed it regularly,

Well, even though I live in this forum and have a post count approaching 4000 posts, apparently giving me access to the TS is not ok because:

"After some staff consensus it was decided that your post content to date does not have sufficient technical input to warrant you having "mentor" status in the trainee forum."

So, unless someone reconsiders me in light of the dullness and lack of hardcore members in here who have not spat their dummy out, and accepts I can be trusted, you can count me out of it all.

Come on someone, I've got my own business, approved contractor with the NICEIC, I've got my 2394 & 2395, and NVQ Level 3, I've gotten JIB Approved Electrician card, what more do you want!!

I've got one if them, the previous owner has scribbled all over it though

And statements like that are not going to help you are they, is that what you call an intelligent and grown up request to become a Mentor in the most protected section of the forum.
We can't afford to have anyone that is going is going to kick off in there and to be honest Tom the comment i've highlighted comes accross like if I can't play I'm taking my ball home.
To be a Mentor requires more than having yourown business and a sticker on your van, try not to take offence at that it just means there's more to being a Mentor one of which is years of experience that can be passed on the the trainees.

My point was there are hardly vast numbers of regulars on here who spend too much time on here like myself, im happy to give an input and help out where I can, I know a sticker on my van is meaningless.

@ Uksparks, your post above has been classed a an application to the TS for Mentor-ship. This is something we do not take lightly and becomes a very intensive debate in the staff room. Many a good member has been turned down before btw.

I have to strike a balance with every new Mentor application and we have to look at the full picture. This system has worked extremely well up to press.

Please no more outbursts, it does not help. Let us lot do what we do best and take it from there.

I will be happy to jump in again paul, let me know if there is anything you think I can help with.

@ Uksparks, the above is just Mike being his normal funny self. Dont take any offence at it lol. (you'll learn  )

Mike, you have never been out of it. Always welcome regardless of what happens on the main forum, the TS is different in a lot of ways as you know.

It absolutely amazes me about the conduct of Mentors in the TS. Some of the Mentors in the main forum rip others to bits at a drop of a hat but yet in the TS you are all good as gold! Lets keep it that way please, I love reading the help that everyone gives.

I have floated around the forum since the cull, I can honestly say I feel the place has gone downhill massively!

This isn't the only reason I've not posted I've not actually been in the UK for the past month or so running a project, so my free time has been limited.

I will partake in the TS section as I do belive in passing knowlege on.

It's not just about the number of posts or time served etc.

How many apprentices have you mentored since you qualified?

Unfortunately you do have a habit of asking questions which the majority of the trainees would be able to answer.

This thread is not about Mentor applications, that is dealt with behind closed doors and no one should be posting up their own opinions about any single member, even in the Arms.

Any more comments about it the posts will be deleted.

im only offering any help and pointers I can as and when, I have never claimed to make out that I know it all as I certainly don't, but my point was that I am a full time practising electrician who can probably help some people.

i won't say any more on this but Dave you say I ask questions most trainees could answer, I think your exaggerating a bit there or taking some of my questions out of context.

Is there a way that Dan could drive more trafic to the trainee section? I think we need to try and get some more trainee members then we can start running more competitions etc. Some sticky threads like Davesparks MICC termination guide that he mentioned is a good idea. Just trying to chuck a few ideas out there.....I don't know if other mentors would be willing but I would be willing to chuck a few quid in to the pot so we could get a real good competition prize together.

And that is the final post on the subject about who should be a Mentor.

as a foot note Gents, please do not think that I am a soft touch due to my every day jovial postings and putting a "lol" at the end of most posts. I'm a right "bar-steward" , I just dont show it most of the time. No more comments about Mentors please.

Any more posts about this, the member, regardless of who it is will be banned for 2 days.
