Just a bit of a rant really.
I had a di-log voltstick which was bloody brilliant and quite sensitive. It recently broke and a few of the fellas I worked with were using a few different varieties of FLUKE, and knowing that its a good brand I parted with £20 and was dissapointed from the word go. Wasnt identifying live cables at all unless it was touching the copper. ####ing useless junk. So I went out and got another di-log one. Its great just like the one I had before. Moral of the story is stick to what works best!

Note to trainees: a voltstick/ non contact voltage indicator is NOT intended to replace safe isolation. Safe isolation SHOULD be followed all the time. There are a few recent threads on here of "sparks" not following SIP and these examples should not be followed.

I won't allow voltstick type tester on my sites, there's too much temptation for them to be misused. My advice would be rather work without one.

Amkay if you search back through my many posts and threads you will see I have always loathed the things and also have explained they are only ever to be used for stirring your coffee.

I wish my newest starter used a volt pen before he cut into the only live cable in the building with my bloody £30 snips!!!! Bless him, he got on his phone, ordered & paid for a new pair to replace the one he had just blown holes in. I really respect that lads work ethics.

Yes he is fine, that is why we use 1000V vde tools. The mistake he made (level 3 sparks mate btw) was that he did not think about what he was doing before he cut the cable. He forgot that we installed a temporary socket up stairs for the joiner and started cutting out the old cables to make way for ours on a rewire.

Neon screwdrivers = bin them.

Volt pens/sticks can be useful if used correctly, but only as a first indication and never for isolation. I always have mine in my pocket, use the torch more than the volt detector lol.
