Hey what kilowatt showers can be feed off 6mm cable and which need 10mm? I guess the distance from the fuse board also needs taking in to account?

V=R/I
I=R/V
R=IxV

bassically to start with a 10kw shower would be 10,000 / 230 = 43Amps

so now you have your design current for your cable calc.

the cable you need for a 10kw shower depends on installation methods (clipped direct)

if it has loads of insulation along the route and other factors you might need a 16+mm cable (this is why we calculate cables in the first place)


and to answer your question, the members here get that bored and wound up from giving people the same advice everyday on how to wire a shed they get ratty

you put 5.8kw i think you mean 8.5

Please can you fix your typo in the first quoted post before it gets taken as gospel by trainees etc.

It wasn't your suggestion about using 6mm cable on an 8.5kW shower that was wrong, this was just inaccurate. What was wrong however was for you to 'suggest' in the first place! What is so bleeding hard for you to understand?! You've been told God knows how many times already!

No matter how much detail you go in to about cable calcs, design, derating blah blah blah, when you are describing how to do something to a plumber on an ELECTRICIAN'S forum, all they will see is "put an 8.5kW shower on a 6mm cable".

Please tell me that this has sunk in finally?!

It is only your assumption and opinion that the OP will only gleam a section of my reply to him, and use it out of context.
Like it or not that is fact.
For that reason your argument is flawed.
The problem is, you are finding it difficult to comprehend that I am failing to bow to, as said, your opinion.
When reading instructions, advice, reports or anything else.
You read the entirety of what’s being said.
If you fail to do that, and take sentences out of context, you do so at your own peril, and that’s certainly not the fault of the writer.
Internet searches will provide many opinions and statements on all kinds of subjects, so the OP can freely read whatever he chooses.
My comments were not inaccurate, and I certainly did not say the OP could use a 6mm cable for an 8.5kw shower end of.
Although circumstances permitting, a 6mm cable will suffice.
The OP is a plumber, presumably by trade and plumbers are not idiots.
In fact I have come across many plumbers who have a very respectable knowledge of electric’s within there own field of expertise.
So to conclude,
I disagree with your analogy; I respect a few others on the forum may well back you with your analogy.
I think you are wrong to be so persistent and just accept that people can, and will, have opinions that differ from yours.
Learn to accept that, without blowing a head gasket.

i just swapped them all around after marvo asked.

they are wrong yes

Just see the V I and R in a triangle in your head (draw it first if you like)
V at the top
I bottom left
R bottom right

That way its easy to see the V divides by I and R.
And the only multiplication is between I and R
So
V/I = R
V/R = I
I X R = V
