Hi there,

Hopefully this is the right place.

I have removed a 1 gang switch, wired to a 2 way circuit in order to plaster and replace. Unfortunately, given it was so long ago, I cannot recall where the wires all go!

There are 3 terminals
I have 3 core and earth cable and also 3 red wires. Where do they all go? I am aware that the earth becomes redundant (plastic box and plastic face plate), the black goes in common, grey goes in L2 and brown into L1.

What on earth are the other 3 red wires and where do they go?

In trying a bit of trial and error, if the other switch is off, the switch in question switches on and off again, correctly. However, if the other switch is on, the switch in question does not switch the light off.

I currently have two of the aforementioned red wires (they were already attached together) going into L2 and 1 going into L1.

Any help is appreciated.

What is the light switch for? how many cables are behind the other switch? ...i.e if its for hall/landing does it require a two way rather than one way ?? ... you should really only have a switch cable and strapper..... may be worth giving a local spark a call, should be a straight forward job with right test gear.

I'm afraid you wouldn't have remembered anyway....without labelling the red cables in conjunction with their original terminals. A bit of on site help required, for sure. I'm wondering about the state of those terminals, too, with all the trial and error.

wire the 3 core to the switch same as the other switch. then you 2 reds together go in L1 and the other red in L2, along with the 2 conductors from the 3 core that you've already connected. don't forget to put all the esrth conductors into the parking terminal.
