Good morning.

Needed some advice please. I am getting an AC condenser unit installed on an outer bedroom wall but only after some internal renovations have been done in the room. I booked an electrician to install a 32Amp isolator switch to the external wall for the AC installer to connect to. Unfortunately the electrician can’t make it till after the renovations are done. This risks my brand new wall plaster and flooring being damaged if he needs to make holes so to help, I plan to throw the “required” wires under the floorboards and out the other end before the works commence so he has an “available” wire for his use. One end being at the fuse box as I know it has to be hard wired and not part of a spur. I am also getting a new double socket installed in a new location in the room.

My question is, which type of wire should I buy for:

1. The outside 32Amp isolator switch?
2. The new internal double socket?
3. Is it just one wire needed for each one or do I need to throw 2 down for each?

There will be an element where the wire for the isolated switch needs to be clipped to the outside wall when it emerges from the brick. Will it therefore need to be the special Armoured type? 6 or 10mm 3 core? Will it be the normal 6mm for the internal socket?

Thanks

We cannot design the new circuit for you without seeing the job, understanding the installation and doing the calculations.
There are far too many variables that mean whatever we suggest may be wrong and lead to you wasting money on cable that may not be able to be used.

There is more to installing cables than just 'throwing wire down'. Regulations dictate where and how cables can be installed to be safe and prevent the risk of fire or serious injury.

The best advice is to either slow down a bit and wait for the electrician to do his part before plastering, or find another electrician who is available at such short notice.
