Hi

Quick question about a system a user wants who has 3-phase electricity. If we install a 4kWp system onto one phase, when it is generating more power than is being used by that phase, will the other phases consume that power, thus slowing/stopping the meter, or is it lost back to the grid?

Cheers

goes back into the grid.

Agree that the power will go back to the grid but there is possibly a difference on what the meter will read depending on what type it is and how it aggregates the power consumption across the phases. It is conceivable that an old spinning wheel 3 phase meter will be better for a consumer than a modern digital one. For example say:
L1= 100W (import) L2 = 100W (import) L3 = -100W (export)
An old analogue meter might read 100W (import)
A new digital meter might read 200W (import)
You may find it difficult to get definitive info though.

We had 4kw on one phase, the meter never showed R.E.D, we then fitted an additional 2 x systems at a later date, we now find on an average day we only use 4 units of electricity overnight, the rest of the time the meter is showing R.E.D, currently we are producing about 45Kw a day from 10Kwp of Panels.
