Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding the loft conversion I’m doing at the moment:

  1. Is it okay to extend the first floor lighting circuit up into the loft? It’s separate from the downstairs circuit and currently has 5 lamps on it. It would be extended by five, two sets of recessed halogens x 3, a stair light and two cupboard lights. It’s a small Edwardian terraced house to give you an idea of the wiring length required.
  2. Is it also okay to extend the ring main into the loft or should it go on a separate circuit? There are 9 double sockets plus one single spur on the ground floor, and 4 doubles and two singles plus a combi connection on the first floor. The loft would require 4 more doubles plus two single sockets.
  3. My final question (for now!): how much work can I legitimately do before I emply an electrician to complete the Part P? Can I lay wires, fix boxes, etc.?

Cheers

Charlie

PS I have no electrical qualifications

you can extend the 2 circuits. it is not notifiable under part pee as long as not in a special location ( bath, shower room).

if is your own place you can do whatever you like.
if thats a job for someone then get an electrician to do it, especially if you have no experience with electrics. theres lots of costly and deadly mistakes to be made...
