Hi everyone, My name is Shaun and i'm 36 yrs old and from Telford.

I have just signed up to an electricians course with train4skills. I have spent most of my workin days doin roofing & cladding, most work bein on a site and worked all over the uk. In 2008 i was told i had testical cancer , i needed a op to remove it . I had to give up my job as i had one or two problems after the op.
I have always wanted to train to be a sparky even though i know very little about it. ( Used to always go see the sparkys work while on site. )
Anyway i signed up with T4S and have just spent last few weeks looking at what i need to learn to pass my level 1,2,3 papers. I must say it is a big challenge ahead, but it's one that i'm looking forward to doin. I have done my first teachers assignment and got 98% most of it was basic H&S which i was ok on due to being on site and getting my cscs card along with my British Safety passport, allowing me to work on any gas or electric site in the uk.

I have been looking at other sites and have herd about a site called the ''Learning lounge "! I have had a quick look over there and think some of the videos might help me with my learning , I guess i will learn more easier with help from them ,as learning at home with just a book is quite hard at times.

As i have said before i'm completly new to all of this electrics, although i can fit a light, change a socket and basic things like that. So any help i get from you guys will be an added bonus.

Does any one know of any good free sites with videos , virtual reality training, etc then please let me know.

Thanks and hope to learn loads from all of you.

Welcome to the forum, good luck with the course, keep up with the book work, tedious but useful.
The learning lounge has some good information but nothing online can beat the practical experience of other professionals.

Thanks for the welcome guys !

Look forward to chatting and learning things from all of you here . This site looks like there will be loads of help and stuff . Just spending a bit of time trying to find as much learning material as i can, so i can make it easier as well as picking up little tradesman tips etc.

I am also thinking of trying to get hold of some old fuse boxes , old wire & plug sockets etc so i can practice putting them together on a old board to practice wiring runs and wiring the all together. I have been to my local tip and asked if they had any, but they said it was against company policy to let me have anything out of the skips. So if any one local who is in the trade who could help i would be most greatfull. Thanks in advance.
