non maintained emrgency light wiring help

hi,im trying to connect non maintained emrgency light wire to 1 gang way switch the 3 core wire is connected from light board L,N,E but i dont know where to connect it on 1 gang way switch it has COMM,L1,L2 showing on switch im looking for diagram this will make it easier for me please help.cheers

you need to feed L and N to the fitting, usually from the local light circuit. you will maybe not have a N at the switch.

i have connected right the 3 core wire on the emergency light board where it says L,N,E but the confusing part is where do i connect the L,N on my 1 gang way wall switch do i connect live brown wire to L1,L2 OR COMM and also where does the neutral goes L1,L2 OR COMM i got the earth connection right

Well N will not go in any of those, live into common and switch wire from L1 or L2, it sounds like a 2 way switch.

correct, you need a double pole switch if you want to switch the neutral, you have no idea what your doing unfortunately, it is very simple really, what have you actually done? just pulled a 3 core and earth from the light to the switch? a 2 core would have done, but you need a neutral at the switch to make it work and I suspect you have not, so up the creek without a paddle.

LIve only goes to the switch , Neutral goes to the light fitting, if you have only 1 twin and earth down to the switch then you can only switch the live , if you want to swich the neutral as well you would need 2 cables ( 2 lives and 2 neutrals and then you would need a double pole switch , not fully sure what you want to do!!

your not answering the question, have you got a neutral available? you may have connected into the neutral terminal at the light, but have you got somewhere to connect it in the switch?????? I suspect no, so whats next?

Richard I suspect a 3 core and earth has been run from an emergency light to a 2 way light switch, and theres no neutral there hence the light not working!!
