hi , can any one advise me
my mum has 4 old storage heaters that i want to replace they are her only source of heating bar an electric fire. the main living area one i was thinking of a "Dimplex FXL Range Fan Storage Heater" or credaequivelent these require 2 sources the E7 and a normal rate my question is can i run a spur from a nearby socket and use a 13 amp Switched Fused Spur and not need a seperate cartridge on the consumer unit?

question 2
in her bedroom that has no heating there is a double pole switch on the main circiciut where there was once a panel heater can i put a small storage heater ( as there is not alot of room, the type without controls that are used for bathrooms) and use a timer switch to control the off peak settings(i no this is not ideal as power cuts will through the time out) it is not very easy to access the consumer units to run a new cable through at least not untill next summer she is currently in hospital and will be convalesing when she returns and does not what the upheavale of rewiring at the moment?

As long as you do not go above 2 kw anything above that requires its own circuit bathroom storage heaters are normally 800 / 850 watts so should be ok as for the timer you could use an immersion heater time clock if you use a digital one it will hold its memory in the event of a power cut

first question is. Aren't the old storage heaters on their own off-peak CU, usually 15A fuse and 2.5 radial to each one?

If you are replacing old storage heaters you need to be aware that they may contain asbestos which would need specialist removal and disposal

they are 16 yrs old. as i understand it as long as i dont dismantle the unit the asbestos if there were any would not be disturbed and as my mother is a oap the local council will collect the old unit.

i would assume there's no asbestos on 16yr old heaters

you'll need to dismantle(remove bricks) more than likely

storage heaters are very heavy, you would need to isolate each individual heater and remove covers to gain access to the heat storage bricks in side. these can be lifted out one by one .
