Had someone round the house the other day looking at installing solar panels and battery to my roof.

Best solution seemed to be 6 panels with a battery. However the install costs were still higher than I expected. Between 10-12k for the set up.

It got me thinking if its possible with some research that I could do a similar install myself.

From an electrical perspective I have a good start but what else is there to research? The labels themselves, the types of inverter, the types of battery (if required), the routing of suitable cables etc....

How is the install connected to the grid to sell what's not used back?

I have a south facing garden, brand new roof and easy access to the roof

Hi Gaz I've looked into it myself as I also have a large south facing roof. Unfortunalty it realy didn't add up the pay back was pushing 15-20 years and that didn't include and replacement parts or maintenance. You don't get much back now FIT have fininshed. The SEG doesn't pay enough to make it worth while. Keep us posted if you do go ahead as I only did a paperwork exercise to see if it was worth while.

Going through the company it certainly wasnt worth it. That's why I thought about doing it myself. If I could shave the install cost by 50% then it would be feasible
