Lights in porch soffit

Hi could someone clarify. Would lights in a porch soffit be a minor or major cert?

If adding to an existing circuit - Minor.

Generally if you have to go into the CU to add/change a fuse or breaker then its 'major', all else is minor!

No. existing circuit exstended [minor works cert] . type of fitting makes no difference

nope not all outside fittings are ip 4 rated some are only ip2 so not such a stupid answer was it. know it all

moisture in the air has no effect on electrical fittings i,ve seen plenty of batton holders under open porches with no problems. so your post was pretty stupid

ELV wiring (data, coax etc) doesn't need notifying, but if you're installing MR16 lamps the chances are you'll also be installing transformers, which use a 230v feed.

moisture in the air corroded through a 12" x 9" RSJ on my property. buggered up the electrical fittings as well.

Your outside light needs a Minor Works Cert for the work and also it needs notifying to Building control for approval on completion...
