Hi could someone clarify. Would lights in a porch soffit be a minor or major cert?

your ip rating isn;t that big a factor. your lights are in a soffit, rain dos,nt fall upwards
ip55, are led not classed as elv? and does that not make a difference? been reading lots of things and they all contradict....
So if fitting with 12v does this make a diffence? (dam my head hurts)
sooooo... would these MR16 need a Electrical Cert or a minor?ELV wiring (data, coax etc) doesn't need notifying, but if you're installing MR16 lamps the chances are you'll also be installing transformers, which use a 230v feed.
you should remember that this is a fourum. not a stage for you to have a pop at other people or make out you know more than anyone else
moisture in the air corroded through a 12" x 9" RSJ on my property. buggered up the electrical fittings as well.moisture in the air has no effect on electrical fittings i,ve seen plenty of batton holders under open porches with no problems. so your post was pretty stupid
So notifiable and non are separate issues? If it's an outside light it'll need notifying as well.
Is this so?now to bring some controversy into the equation. its in a porch. it's attached to the building fabric. so not notifiable. minor works certificate.
yes. agree with outdoor lighting/installations. but anything fixed to the fabric of the building is just an extension to the indoor installation as if it were an extra light or socket in a room.As per EGtBR (p60) it includes "Outdoor lighting or outdoor power installations" with no mention of being screwed down.
i may be wrong. but as i understand part p, outside electrics, as in remote from the house, garden, shed, ponds, etc. are notifiable. anything attached to the house, e.g. porch lights, security lights etc. are not notifiable

so what if he fits an outside door to the porch? it's indoors then. will re-read part p when next i get bored out of my skull.i think its an Outdoor light and should be treated as such..!
my interpretation of part pee exactly.Funnily enough I was about to ask this same question, as I also read somewhere that if the fitting is attached to the building then it does not need notifying. Can anyone else clarify this ??
Didn't he say the lights were going in the soffit? Making them outside and exposed?so what if he fits an outside door to the porch? it's indoors then. will re-read part p when next i get bored out of my skull.
