Evening chaps
was wondering if any of you had installed this 'easy fit' air con units?
Apparently they come with a length of gased up flexi pipe that just clicks onto the fan unit from the wall unit.
Am just looking for a bit of input as to if these are so 'easy fit' or not.
cheers in advance.

I did fit one a couple of years ago it was extremely easy, unit was pre gassed you just connect outside to inside unit then flush through as per instructions(i can only assume the unit is "over gassed" to allow for this. The only problem was that the ends of the copper pipe were pre flared and as i did not have the correct tool to do this so i fitted the outside unit to suit

I'm fairly sure you'd need some kinda F-gas qualification to do this type of work in the UK. Also as far as I know, purging pipework to atmosphere using refrigerant has been outlawed in most of Europe and the UK.

It's the 'flushing' of the pipework that caught my attention, usually you'd install the pipework and pull a decent vacuum before the refrigerant charge is introduced. Even on a system that's shipped pre-charged with the refrigerant inside the condensing unit you'd still need a vacuum pump........ unless they've come up with some new fangled way of avoiding the need.

From puravent.co.uk:
The 'easy fit' range groups those wall mounted air conditioners that have 'precharged umbilical cords' and quick connect pipe ends. This feature means that these air conditioners can be fitted by electricians or even those skilled at DIY tasks. The other advantage of these air conditioners is that if the system can be easily reinstalled if you move house or office. Bare in mind the time is running out for easy fit, as although they will still be available after 4th July 2011, from that date it will no longer be permissible for a non F-gas qualified person to fit them.

Sorry to correct you but the pre gassed ones dont need any specialist training to fit whatsoever , its simply a plug and play operation , all the lines are pre charged and sealed , like hydraulic couplings , all you do is core hole , mount indoor unit run pipes, fix outdoor unit unit connect pipes, wire and your away , there is no need to pull a vac as there is no open ends , no f gas qualifications , because your not doing anything but plugging and walking away , to service , recover charge top up charge etc then yes,

They were designed to be fitted by "trades" without and f gas qualifications to boost the market for them , wouldnt touch them with a barge pole as they are usually cheap chinky with R22 gas ( now BANNED)

Hmmm, looks like they were developed around a gray area in the FGas regs...which has now been amended. So even with the pre-charged pipework and quick fit couplings you'd still to be FGas certified to install them now. I hate quick fit connectors on refrigeration systems, they always leak eventually.

According to the agents website they were only okay to install without FGas quals before 4 July 2011.

Not here it isn't. We also still managed to get R12 and F11 for flushing a couple of months ago. The bans in the EU countries just mean the price drops here when they all start dumping it.
