Light switch in a bathroom/shower room, least of the worries, look at the exposed wires

shower area is like 3 feet from the switch.

btw its not my bathroom, this is an NHS hospital room. :-S

I think the room may have been converted to a shower room and no one considered the light switch.

The exposed wires are a smoke detector base, which would support Had8lives post. Probably took head away when they started to get false alarms. The diode has been by passed to stop a fault showing at the panel.

The light switch does appear to be outside zones but obviously need to be on site to verify that. Suitability for location may be an issue, but again the person on site is better placed to judge.

As stated this is for a smoke head. The wiring will probably be 24V so isn't a shock risk.

The switch is outside zone 2 - not desirable, but not against the regs..... imho
