I recently had an electrician install a new consumer unit in my cellar. A second electrician, who is subcontracted by my bathroom fitter to carry out electrical work in the bathroom, has said that the cable entry to the fuseboard should be sealed with either fire resistant stuffing glands or fire resistant mastic and he will not sign off the bathroom work until the consumer unit has been made safe.

I have tried to find out if he is correct but am unclear on the regulations so hoped someone here might be able to advise.

Can anyone help please?

They don't need fire sealing but the entries need improved sealing to maintain the IP rating. What is all the green/yellow tape in aid of.

Holding the grommit strip in place by the looks of it.

I would also say all the bathroom electrician needs to do is make a new hole in the board, and use whatever sealant he wants just for his new circuit. The rest of the installation has nothing to do with him unless its affects his new circuit. (ie, bathrooms circuits require RCD now, which is probably there already, but if not, he would have to add one)

He can mention the other holes on his EIC when he does it.
