I'm still in the office having now done a 6 hour evening shift int he office following an 8 our stint on site installing today, all because the EU announcement has now started to majorly bugger up the supply chain even for the none chinese panels - ie the panels we've been quoting on for the last month because they shouldn't have been affected.

We had 2 jobs for next week, using Hyundai 220Wp mono and Romag 250Wp poly respectively, neither of which used any chinese parts, both of which we'd been assured had no supply chain issues, and both of which we placed the order for last week (or tried to).

Turns out that actually Romag have sold out for the month, and have been gazumped by other manufacturers for the taiwanese solar cells they'd put an extra order in for, so can now only offer 245Wp poly panels at a tenner more than their previous price for the 250Wp polys and no chance of delivery before the back end of the month (now saying nothing til start of May for new orders)... and some git bought the last of the 220Wp hyundais from Dulas in an order of 200 panels the night before we went to order them, and it appears that the country has been sucked dry of either those or the 218wp version segen had been stocking until a few weeks back, and from all accounts it looks like Hyundai might even have stopped making them.

Still, picked up a bargain of the last of the cheap upsolar 240Wp poly panels to replace a 4kWp romag with a 4.8kWp upsolar system for one customer who seems pretty happy with that idea, and bit the bullet and went for the more expensive 250Wp Hyundai panels instead for another customer giving a slightly better system as well, then remembered we'd still got an odd 250Wp hyundai panel lurking in the warehouse looking for a home as well....... so it's turned out alright I think, though it's probably cost us £4-500 extra from our megre margins, but really, I needed this sort of messing about again like I needed a hole in the head.

I'm sorely tempted to take the AFASE campaign up on their request to go to Brussels to meet the idiots directly who're responsible for this fiasco.... but at this rate I might need to hitch over there or something.

Actually I'm wondering about an alternative tactic of an industry wide boycott of those EU manufacturers who pushed for this scheme to happen... that's if they're not already too scared to actually come out publicly with their support for 'ProSun' .

EU ProSun is an initiative of European photovoltaic manufacturers who united in order to promote PV technology and the sustainable growth of the European solar industry, as well as urge the European Commission to restore a level playing field with China. We represent a significant proportion of European producers, who have partly decided to publicly express their support, together with a number of anonymous supporters who are principally concerned about the negative consequences they might face if their identities are revealed.

We're having similar problems, unless you get the sale on the night you can't guarantee prices - but I've started to inflate prices just in case and refund if I get the right price. I'm not sure what else you can do, but I'm worried this is going to happen until December. I've been having problems with roof kit of all things - how do you work that out!

Meanwhile we still have muppets round us doing 4kwp for 5k.

Madness, how are they still doing it? or are they advertising it as a 'from' price and bumping it up at quotation?

From their website......

HERE’S AN EXAMPLE…..

A typical household uses approximately 3300kWh of electricity per year (source Ofgem report)
A 4kW PV fit system installed on an unshaded South facing roof will deliver approximately 3434 kWh per year.

Initial cost £4995 plus 5% VAT*
Feed In Tariff (@15.44p/kWh) = £530.15
Your savings from bought in energy = £223.18
Solar energy sold back to the grid = £77.26

Total income & savings = £830.59 per annum or £25,215.81 over the term of the 20 years.
Your system will have an estimated payback of 5 years and you get the payments for 20 years!

From their website : £4995, for 4kwp - 5yr payback - 25k after 20 years. Of course they use 50% consumption which is nigh on impossible but even so 5k???? Renesola & Samil - we'd be lucky to cover our costs.

Mind you - it depends on how aggressive their marketing is and don't forget some people just won't go for the cheapest. I have a business mentor who is very confident that customers will pay for a bespoke installation and we are definitely picking up some work at the minute. I'd rather do fewer jobs for the same money as those idiots - I can't see how they will be making any more than us in the long run.

Pleased we just finishing a 7kw install, if we delayed it by a week we might be having problems sourcing parts and inflated prices !
