Suggestions please

OK guys & girls...

yesterday I swapped out some knackered under cupboard lights for mains powered 3W led lights (TLC code KB UCLED4) - they looked good and the customer was happy....

until last night and now they are saying they are too bright!

So - there is no way to accommodate a transformer, so the units need to be with integral driver!


Ideas all?

If there isn't already, suggest that they get a pelmet fitted along the front edge of the cupboard so that you can't see the fitting directly.

not electrical but you can get some led light gel stick on stuff from stagedepot to soften the light,comes in a range of shades and colours

Don't they usually come with two different pairs of mounting brackets? One where the light points to the worktop and one where the light will be pointed towards the wall behind, rotating the fitting 90 degrees and throwing less light out, in effect. Especially with granite worktops, they light up rather bright!!

Already done that on the install, so they are behind the (small) pelmet.

Hum.... yes - I have read on another forum, one I mustn't Talk about, that people mentioned that LED's get dimmer with use - not sure I concur with the latter...

We've tried theatrical gel in front of various LED sources and it just doesn't last. LED sources give out intense light of specific wavelengths which burn out the gel pretty quickly.

Which is why they have special defusion material that they claim will last for over 8 months LEE Zircon - Longer life filters for LED

I can't imagine the customer being too happy about a soloution which only lasts 8 months!

Plus how much are LEE going to sting them for that stuff? Normal gel is bad enough!

Seriously though, if it was a good regular customer I would be tempted to say I will take them off your hands at a reduced rate (to keep for another job) and then get some less luminous ones. Only for decent clients though..

Just looked at the lights in question. No chance of a different diffuser? Or, bit crap I know, could mask off some of the diffuser perhaps. They don't get very hot afterall.

Or if say, there are three underneath 8ft of wall cabs, then reduce this to two instead...

Edited the above for clarity!

Plus:

I have located some that Robus do which are 3W and warm white so that should make the lights more "acceptable" but they are a bit more expensive!

If anyone is interested Screwfix sell the Robus units and their code is 22115
