Just when i thought the berating of poor old delboy was getting a bit too much this beauty pops up, you'll like this one Pete. Great use of the bang test, guessing he left his mft at home. Cutting the cpc out to get over a fault.. and the state of that CU.....

Just watched this and I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not by calling it a lovely job!

I've never worked on one of those mantell boxes but it looks like this one clears the wall by a decent distance. I'm sure the metal they're made of is quite thick, but I would have at least tried to drill a 20mm hole in the mantell box and run the spur from the CU. It would have kept the wiring solely in the cupboard and I can't imagine it would have taken longer than it took Del to convert that 1 gang socket to surface and run all that horrible trunking.

I don't want to knock Del because he's a nice bloke and he's putting his work out there, but I think this one is a bit of a crap job and not his finest.

Yeah, it looked rough. Those bushings at the top were where the original circuit cables come in via conduit. I'm sure you know that box would have had a skeleton board with rewireable 3036 fuses in it originally, but someone has replaced it with a modern metal CU so it looks a bit weird with all that basic insulation being outside the CU and the circuit CPCs going into a separate MET.

But the whole lot is still inside a big metal box with a closeable door, so in terms of regs, I guess it's technically ok? It just looks like a massive pile of s*** when you open the door! If I'd done that CU I personally would rather have put something at the top to contain the original circuit cables and extend them into the new CU neatly, but Del wasn't there to do that

It would have been much neater and better for that CU to be mounted flush to the cable entry's.

I assumed that was the case but it looked like the door had been removed. I haven't seen anything like that around here in sunny Norfolk, it's mostly wylex boards.

Although his work can be a bit rough it's much better than the people before on a lot of these and it's the dives he ends up in that I find entertaining.
