Best way to use a CAT5 as a switch circuit?

24V DC is permissible, the earlier suggestions of 240V AC would not be! RS485 is great if you need feedback, sensor or alarm from the remote end, or to add more outputs later.

Best way to use a CAT5 as a switch circuit?

But will you have retired before the next periodic inspection when it gets flagged as a bodge? There’s no protective conductor on a run of Cat5 so this needs to be SELV. Rather than overload and fuse the cable you have I’d look into RS485/modbus control gear which is designed for exactly this...

trying to understand 3 phase motor/capacitor installation

Another vote for binning the capacitor, run/start switch and buying a single-phase to 3-phase speed controller. They are simple enough to wire in and you will get full-torque soft start, jog, fine speed adjustment. Usually can wire in external potentiometer speed control if there is a pedal...

Thanks for the replies. All seem to be agreeing it's a caravan rather than a socket outlet, so that helps. No plans to randomly order up the SWA cable from an internet forum comment, but thanks, will wait until I've spoken with someone willing to do the design for me (No PM's so far). The...

Hi, My inlaws have a new garden hut arriving in three weeks to the bottom of their garden which is around 103m from the house. It has various electrical appliances including a 8.4kw electric shower (!). The company making them do an EIC measured on their supply before transporting it to us. The...
