    Rcd problems

Arrrgh... This thread strikes so many chords! Lets get the place decorated then we'll get an electrician in. I reckon people think we have trained moles that burrow up the walls pulling the cables in behind them... More seriously though, what worries me in situations like this is the liability...

    Switched FCU For Lighting Circuit

Yep. Agree with the other posts re. the certs but note that it's a 1362 in FCU

    Rcd problems

This may be useful info for you re. the unearthed metal fittings. http://www.esc.org.uk/fileadmin/user_upload/documents/industry/best_practice/BPG1v2_web.pdf Page 5 does recommend you decline to replace the consumer unit if they won't change the fittings.......bit late for that I guess! Good...

who likes problem solving ? i've got a hummdinger of a puzzel, All replies welcome !

Re: who likes problem solving ? i've got a hummdinger of a puzzel, All replies welcom Sounds like you need a time delay relay on the contactors to make sure one has dropped out before the other energises.

Multiple Bonding Points on TT System

Hi Chloebear, I might be wrong but assuming that all consumer units are supplied from a single source, you should put an MET there. Presumably you have a main db feeding the sub-boards so run an earth from the MET when you run in the sub-mains.

    hob /oven install

Yep, I'm with baldsparkies on that one. 4mm definitely no good for both..

    roomstats/cylinder stats

Basically, when the prog goes on, it switches live to the stat. If the stat calls for heat it tells the valve to open then when the valve is open it switches live to the pump & boiler. Heating works that way, and also hot water in an S-plan system Hot water in a Y-plan is slightly different...

    Shower circuit only RCD

Hi, Presumably as the existing bathroom circuits are not RCD protected, you will need to supplimentary bond to them even if you're only working on the shower..

    roomstats/cylinder stats

Hi, Yeah, its as Lenny said but if it's running without demand from prog then there maybe a frost stat either in the boiler, the prog or a stand alone one. Is it happening when it's really cold? Or if you're trying to achieve a minimun temperature when the prog is off you could wire in...

    Tell us about your faults!

Re: Tell us about your faults ! No probs Jason, Hope its helped.. I suspect the loading is in actual fact so small that all 4 will easily run on 13A. I think the no diversity rule is for thermostatically controlled water heaters not space heaters unless anyone else knows different........

    Tell us about your faults!

Re: Tell us about your faults ! Well, What rating are the towel rails? Unless they're particularly large, most run at a few hunderd watts and only need a 3A fuse. If that is the case, a 13A spur to protect the 2.5 next to the existing socket where it's supplied from is all you need. Plus...

Another Earth Rod or Export from MET?

Ok, I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong but surely if pipes are copper TT is pointless ?? The resistance of the copper would be way lower than the stake and therefore any fault path would be down the pipes not through the stake if they are bonded at both ends.. Definitely a case for...

Another Earth Rod or Export from MET?

Hi guys, Interesting thread. I assume the gas and water services from the house are in plastic...?

    High socket resistance?

I find this quite often... More usually with old sockets that don't get any use rather than cheap ones. Try pushing the plug in and out several times to give it a bit of a clean. See if that makes a difference. Do you get the same problem with R1+R2 and Loop?

    bathroom fan RCD

Not sure that if its a Separated ELV supply a fault would cause an imbalance in phase and neutral supplying the transformer for the RCD to detect? but unless you're using the old fan feed with existing isolator you probaby need one to cover your wiring anyway.
