    TN-CS Combined With TT Question

I guess different networks will have different policies. WPD guys when replacing a transformer the other day said the only way you could guarantee a tns connection is if you had your own transformer on site.

    TN-CS Combined With TT Question

What are the chances of the neutral leg being broken between the service head outside your property and your meter without causing some other fault? Pretty much zero. pme = protective multiple earth. It’s earthed at pretty much every joint; every time the dno do any work on a cable they pme it...

    Does this look ok?

I’m guessing the car charger was either a DIY addition, or perhaps started life as a 3kw model and has been ‘upgraded’ to a 7kw one by swapping the breaker

    Does this look ok?

2.5mm t&e is an interesting choice for feeding the 7kw car charger on a 32a breaker. Are you sure it’s 2.5mm and not 4mm? Have you got a certificate for when that was fitted?

    Split con submain

The non-hurty wires can still make a big bang if they touch the hurty wire in the middle, especially if all that is protecting them is big fuse :) but I guess the same is true for swa...

If it's swa I see they decided that SWA glands were too difficult to fit as well... The washing line above it is particularly artistic with it's 45 degree slope as well

    Kitchen electrical work

I think the original plan by the electrician was to put in an additional 2 way CU for the kitchen presumably for the reasons you allude to, but kitchen cowboy declared this unnecessary (and probably spurred it all off the lighting circuit for good measure.)

    Split con submain

I think the consensus is that even though it’s not technically in the regs, there nothing unsafe about using it. However, it’s got no more protection than a twin and earth. Would you run a 16mm twin and earth underneath plaster outside of a safe zone with just the dno fuse for protection?

    Kitchen electrical work

The whole job looks like a complete disaster, if this is what’s visible I dread to think about what’s hidden and you can’t see. I’d get your original electrician in to redo the lot and knock his bill off the joiners bill.

    Split con submain

Because I stuck a meter on it when the DNO installed it? If I had done the work I wouldn't have used split con in the first place and we wouldn't be having this conversation...

    Split con submain

Not sure what you're getting at? Why would you TT a perfectly good dno earth (ze 0.3) As it happens there's basically nothing metallic in the building. Plastic pipes for everything.

    Split con submain

No, tncs from the dno and then exporting the earth to the 'other' building (which is effectively a semi detached house.

Which is obviously a complete non starter in this scenario unless you want to be knocking on your neighbours door when you trip something...

Ok I'm not a practising sparky but I'm not a clueless diy'er either. Please don't start dissecting me.. We have got a couple of barn conversions to holiday lets happening at the moment. One is a single barn that has been designed so it can be let out as one single house or two mini house. Two...
