150m submain to multiple outbuildings earthing (PME)

To add to this, as a rule, don't supply sub boards from an MCB. You won't get full discrimination, and MCB'S have much lower max Zs values than an equivalent fuse.

    AOV Backup Power

I've just seen this. Don't forget the principle of an AOV is to maintain the stack effect, to aid in the venting of smoke. If all actuators were to open, the system wouldn't work effectively. It's likely that only one or two floors will open at a time. I've not ever had to design for a...

    Water heating

So, E = (mC Dt)/t m = mass in kg C = 4.187 for water @ 10 degrees C Dt = difference between input and output temp. I expect it will be around 55 degrees t = time in secs So for a 180 litre tank, to heat up with 250W will take around 46 hours to heat up (assuming no heat loss) Far too long...

    600mm swa cable depth rule

Personally, when I'm specifying projects, I use NJUG 2 as a guide to burial depths of services.

I doubt it was installed like that. I suspect fowl play!

    Emergency Test Switches

Thats a fair point. It's just the way I like to do it. 3 hours? If a system requires 3 hours worth of lighting, then it's bloody massive. The system should be capable of operation for the expected time of evacuation (worst case scenario of course).

    Emergency Test Switches

I personally like to wire the key switches, so that they kill the feed to the standard switches. This allows for a proper test of the system, and lux levels can be checked. I understand however for large office blocks ect, this isn't practical, and they have to be wired so that the standard...

    Back up generator on domestic

I personally wouldn't worry about disconnecting the earth, as you're always going to have inadvertent connections via bonding, CPC's and the general mass of earth, between your genny rod, and the DNO earth. In this instance, being a TT system, you needn't disconnect the earth anyway.

    teaching

My labourer earns more than that for just turning up, doing as he's asked, and going home!! It's a shame that the money is so crap, because the best people won't apply for the job, as they earn more in industry.

    Electrical Engineer

This is no joke, we have a project engineer at work called Roger Hole, he named his daughter Rebecca Constance (R.C Hole) and his other daughters middle name is Heidi! His dog is called Digger! he has a very good sense of humour!

    Cables in concrete

I'd use plastic. It's quick & easy to install and isn't going to corrode.

    two supplies to a relay

A control panel doesn't have to abide by BS7671. what I do is cover any terminals that remain energised after operating the isolator with Clear PVC. This is labelled accordingly. this is often done to comply with the form factor requirements of the clients spec.

    Downloading Microsoft Word?

The other option is to google 'software for students' if you have a student in your household, then you get massive discounts. This isn't checked though. you could always say you are studying in your own time, from freely available sources. Isnt the definition of a student: somebody who...
