Strange that, regs say your supposed to keep the fire integrity of the unit !. Therefore all glands should be of the the Fireproof variety !. Also the back hole needs the same firproofing. Ring mains 2 x 2.5 glands use 25mm holes most knockouts are 20mm. YES I use Wiska variety not the cat type...

Have been using BG boxes for years, now getting fed up with all these knockouts at wrong size for 3rd ed glands.
Have complained to BG but they dont reply, started back with MK but their just the same !. Have any of you complained to these Mfg to get their knockouts at the right...

Pete999, internal serrated washer grips better and stops scaping off paint, less rust, quicker too.
Another bit of info:-
1. They have a contractors kit with all the glands.
2. They are bringing out a box with extra inserts that have asked for.
3. They are also NOW going to look at having the metal lockrings with serrated teeth to clean paint for good contacts with boxes.

Hi Folks, These new C/U's dont seem to have thought this out too well. Old cables in cavity wall in to C/U. Need to make fireproof. Whats your best bet ?.

You could mention the chance of writing to your local/national newspaper or "Professional Electrician" magazine ?. That might cause muck in pants concern. Nothing ventured nothing *****.
Screwfix can supply wire bits and flexible conduit to run cable in !. Cable can be T&E with secondry protection. Cable ties fitted every 30-60cms. Cable should have RCD protection, earthing and proper heights.
