I wanted to swap over a light switch in my bedroom, a DIY job I have done many times before. The switch is a double switch with one side controlling outside light and the other a bedroom light.
The outside lights have two other switches in the house and the bedroom switch one other on the other side of the room. The switch was working perfectly when I started to change it, this is purely for cosmetic reasons. Both old and new switches are manufacture by LeGrand.
Leaving the wall box are four wires, two blue and two orange.
The blue wires were connected to the two terminals marked L. The orange wires were connected to the terminals marked 4 & 2. There was a shunt between terminals 3 & 1. See attachment named old switch.
The new switch is marked differently. I assume the blue (live) wires go to the two terminals marked L but the numbers for the other terminals don't correspond, so I need advice on where the orange wires and shunt should go. See attachment named new box.
I would happily get an electrician in to fix it, but we live way out in the country and it is difficult to get a tradesman out to change one light switch, so I am hoping that I can finish it with some advice.
