Hello,

I had a 2 wire doorbell transformer that I needed to upgrade in order for my Ring Pro to work correctly. The old transformer had 2 black wires and one was connected to a black wire and the other was connected to a bare copper wire. The new transformer has 3 wires (black, white and green). Currently, I have black to black and white and green are both connected to the bare copper wire. I was advised to wire it that way by my brother in law who does some electrical. Is this acceptable? I have included a picture to this thread with how the wiring looked with the original transformer. My house was built in 88/89 and I read that some older houses don't have ground at the transformer so they just cap ground and let it hang. The circuit has been turned on for a day or 2, but I want to make sure that the house doesn't burn down.

Thank you!

No that is not wired correctly - for the old or the new transformer. The way the bare copper has been used is incorrect and potentially unsafe. Have an electrician test the coloured (R, W, B) and bare copper wires to establish their purpose and then connect to the transformer correctly.
