Hi all, I have a 1.5mm twin and earth cable. Fitting a loft light. I have connected the cable to the original lighting cable in the loft with no issues. I have looked at the single gang light switch and has L1 L2 L1 L2.
So how do I connect the feed into the light switch and the cable again twin and earth coming in from the light?

Thank you

Sounds like you have an intermediate switch rather than a standard one-way.

The one way will have only two terminals for live in, switchwire out, and the neutral connected through.

Intermediate switches can be used for one way, two way and it's intended purpose.

Yes off course an intermediate can be used as one or two way… but

I don’t know if it is an intermediate… only by the OP description.

A one way is much cheaper… the OP might want to take the other switch back and save a few quid.

And then it goes..... BANG!

Brown wires into L1 and L1 on your intermediate switch. Or L1 and Com on a 1 way switch.
Blue wires (N) into separate connector.
Earth wires (sleeved with green/yellow) into earth terminal, on switch if metal, or backbox, or separate connector if other options not available.

he could even have a 20A D/P switch for all we know 4 sure.

DP switch would be marked L and N, not L1 and L2.
@OP: Do NOT connect the neutrals to the switch, or it will have a short and spectacular life.

See quite a few trainee sparks on site 'park' all the neutrals in the L2 of a switch , and bang.
Seen quite a few cheapo switched literally be blown apart this way

Should actually be OK when using a 2W switch as a 1W, as long as you connect the permanent live supply to L1 and take the switched live from Common.
Wouldn't recommend it though.

but confusing for the next guy!
I like the switches with a "dummy" terminal to "park" stuff...saves space in the back-box...but still can be confusing for the next man/woman.
Got home tonight and the lights in the common stairwell were out. Got the fuse wire card from the cupboard and fixed it...chap downstairs said "Oh, I called the factor...show me what you did?"
Me: "No"
